A big thank you for everyone who came down to Ronnie’s on 20th March for the gig. It was a large friendly crowd who clearly knew their Doris songs! I had made two cakes this time; a buttermilk cake with lemon icing and a Victoria sponge with strawberries on the top, in anticipation of birthdays.

There were so many people in the room celebrating so just before Que Sera Sera I went through them all and a crowd queued at the end to sample my wares. Highlight birthday was Peter celebrating his 80th and also his 57th wedding anniversary with wife DORIS. Couldn’t have been more perfect. He went on to tell me that he had been coming to Ronnie’s since the 60s. It’s always an inspiration to hear that age is not a restriction to life.

I ended the set with a dedication to Doris who will also be celebrating her birthday in a couple of weeks (3rd April) – still going strong at 87. May she have many more years ahead.

My fantastic band the MAD MEN sounded superb as usual with Ross Stanley on piano, Gabriel Garrick on trumpet, Spencer Brown on bass, Simon Golding on guitar and Simon Pearson on drums.

The only hitch of the day was my yellow dress – last worn on my wedding day in 2002! You can’t rely on vintage for zips and sure enough the zip slipped and was irreparable so helpful and resourceful seamstress Urate from Ronnie Scott’s held me together with safety pins – phew what a relief. I do so love to have a costume change.
